I recently had occasion to attend Altnagelvin Hospital for an investigation.
This investigation is part of an ongoing process that was initiated by my having contracted oesophageal cancer back in 2021. Given the seriousness of the surgery that I had to have, compounded by difficulties with my recovery, I had to spend 3 weeks in the ICU, being ventilated, due to the deflation of both of my lungs.
As part on this ongoing process I have had to attend numerous medical appointments in an attempt to help me cope with my current health conditions.
As part of this process I was recently referred to the respiratory team up in Altnagelvin, and my recent visit entailed my having to undergo a number of tests to determine the severity of the symptoms that I am experiencing.
The young nurse, Amy, was absolutely brilliant 🤩 and from the beginning of our engagement, Amy constantly reminded me that if the tests were proving too difficult for me to handle, then she would not push it and that she would present her assessments to the consultant within the respiratory team who had requested for the investigations to be conducted.
Throughout the whole process of the investigation I felt totally at ease about it and I was very pleased to have Amy carry out this investigation as the way in which she spoke to me and, more importantly, listened to me throughout the whole process, this was very reassuring for me!
I am submitting my story to Care Opinion in the hope that it will give some recognition to Amy and others who are so committed to helping those of us who need their help and support!
Once again I sincerely hope that Amy will get to know that I have submitted this story and that she will get some form of recognition.
Thank you so much.
"An absolutely brilliant nurse"
