"Unlocking the chains of anxiety"

About: Inclusion Thurrock (Talking Therapies)

(as the patient),

I've struggled with anxiety most of my life, I just got to a point of thinking this is how it is and got on with it. However, over time this started to affect my health and wellbeing and held me back in many aspects in my life. Somehow, I have managed to hold down a career (but never pushed my self to the top) as I felt my anxiety would destroy me first and bring my career crashing down. Also I have family but I know I could do more for them and be more supportive but I lacked confidence and self-belief and always saw myself as a failure.

My realisation came in Nov 2023 when I decided enough was enough, I had to seek help to make changes. I contacted Inclusion Thurrock and after a discussion about how I am and feel, I heard the words that I needed - we can help you. This gave me huge relief that I had been listened to and understood, that my condition was real and I can get support.

I had an excellent therapist, Susan, who would allow me to speak at my own pace, express how I felt and talked through my issues and barriers. I was never judged and rushed and allowed me to take each step at a time once I was OK with that area of discussion. At times it was thought provoking and difficult to talk about, but at least I was able to accept who I am and how to deal with my anxiety to put me in a better place and a much better outlook.

I've learnt techniques to support me when I find myself stepping into anxiety  mode and how to reduce my worrying, it has also helped with my irritability and become a more understanding and able to rationalise situations better.

My message is simple, Don't let anxiety get the better of you and allow it to destroy your hopes and dreams, pick up the phone because there is someone on the other end who is there to listen, understand and unlock the chains of anxiety which is holding you back and give you the freedom of having a fulfilling life. Good Luck šŸ‘

Hello A N Exty,

Firstly, thank you so much for providing such lovely feedback regarding your experience with Inclusion Thurrock.

Secondly, it sounds as though you have had a difficult journey managing your anxiety and that it came to a time where you realised you needed some support with this. Taking this step to refer yourself shows huge courage which is just admirable. I am so glad to hear that during your initial assessment with us, that you felt listened to and understood as this is entirely important.

I am also delighted to hear that your hard work, with the support of Susan, has led to you having the tools and techniques to manage your anxiety and to also accept who you are as a person. It is amazing to hear that you felt comfortable with your therapist Susan and that she allowed you to speak at your own pace and be non-judgemental during your sessions. It sounds as though you built a great therapeutic relationship with Susan, I will pass on your feedback to her as I'm sure they will really appreciate this.

It is great to hear that you have the techniques to help you in the future especially to be able to rationalise situations better which is amazing.

Thank you for sharing your journey, we hope that others reading this will feel encouraged to reach out for support if they are experiencing similar. We wish you the best of the luck for your future,

Best wishes,

Olivia
