"Saved my life by sending me to rehab."

About: Broadway Lodge CGL Birmingham

(as a service user),

I am an alcoholic and I needed help, I got in touch with CGL and they helped me.

I attended their groups twice a week and my drinking was destroying my life, I asked for residential treatment as I had no where else to turn.

I got funding for treatment and went to Parkhouse to detox but I was so unwell, I only stayed a day before being admitted to hospital, I spent 3 weeks there and then came to Broadway Lodge.

I have now completed 12 weeks of treatment and will be relocating out of Birmingham to continue my recovery. Without CGL I do not know where I would be now.

My drinking had taken over my life and I lost me kids, home, everything and was constantly getting into fights and being arrested. My body was giving up on me and CGL saved my life sending me to rehab.

In Broadway Lodge I was able to be supported to work a 12 step program around addiction and have groups daily and one on one counselling sessions.

I struggle to read and write and they supported me with this and I did my steps and wrote and read a life story. They helped me understand why I pick up the drink and that I cant just have one.

They also supported me in relocating and with contact with my children and social services.

Dear andromedahr98

Thank you for getting in touch with us to share your experiences.

My name is Lydia and I am responsible for listening and responding to people's feedback.

Alcohol can affect people's lives in so many different ways, and sounds like were in a really difficult situation before seeking support. I can only imagine how overwhelming it must have felt for you at the time.

I am so glad that you reached out to us and asked for help. From what you have shared it is clear that you had recognised the huge impact alcohol was having on your life and that you 100% committed yourself to recovery and the things you needed to do in order to achieve it.

It must have been really unsettling getting so unwell after going to Park House and having to go into hospital shortly after. Especially after all of the preparation you did in our group sessions. But it sounds like you really needed hospital intervention at the time and I'm glad that you received the treatment you needed.

It was so good to read that having to go into hospital didn't affect you determination to carry on with the plans you had made to go to rehab and it sounds like Broadway Lodge did an amazing job of supporting you whilst you were there. Gaining an understanding of why alcohol has been part of your life is so important in recovery, and I'm really happy for you that Broadway Lodge helped you to gain some insight into this.

I really hope that the new location you have found to live in, gives you that new start in life you need and deserve, and a foundation to build on the amazing progress you have made so far. I wish you all the very best in making progress with social services and building up more contact with your children. It may take a little time, but I am sure if you continue to show the commitment you have so far, and that you call on everything you have learned on your journey so far, that really positive things will come your way.

Thank you again for reaching out to us. I will make sure your feedback is shared with our staff members within our service so that they can see how much they have helped you. I'm sure everyone who reads it will be really appreciative, but most of all extremely happy to hear about how much you have gained through your hard work and determination.

Take care and feel proud of what you have achieved every day!

Lydia
