"Empathy and support from all the midwifes"

About: Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh at Little France / Lothian Birth Centre Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh at Little France / Maternity care

(as a service user),

This Story will hopefully help Highlight the fantastic care and compassion givin by 3 amazing midwifes who we encounted during our stay within RIE - Labour ward.

So my wife and my self (Husband) unfortunately found our selfs on the harsh end of reality with losing out 1st baby at 15 weeks - From the intial contact in Triage right through to labour ward. I can only say the care and compassion and empathy and Human element of our care was 100% givin.

Midwife - Fiona was the most professional, careing, empathetic and supportive person i've come across in all my years of working in the NHS my self - her support not only to my wife but me as the dad also was exemplary and she is a credit and i cant thank her enough for the care and support she provided to us.

Her approach to such a fragile situation that we experienced was so supportive and attentive I dont have the words to describe how amazing her care was.

When the inevitable did happen she supported us in seeing baby after making sure we where ready not just physically but also emotionally she talked with us about baby and the diffrent features that baby has - This truly made the whole experience a little less trumatic. I truly am thankful for her care and compassion and I can only hope we meet on better circumstances next time. I truly can't express the gratitude i have for her and I can only say Thank you again.

Now switching to the night shift - we did find it hard being in a ward with women who where in labour and we where suffering a loss. I undertsand that due to space and avaliblity its challanging to change this set up. They places us in a corner of the ward which was quiter which was great and at least we could kind of lock the world away and deal with our situation.

Midwife - Neave - is and amazing and supportive person who looked after us during the night, Nothing was to challenging and any questions we had or concerns where dealt with right away. Her care. compassion and understanding was very evident and gave us alot of comfort and support during this harsh experince. I can only say thank you for everything you really are amazing.

Moving on to the shift change and getting home - Fiona actually stayed a little late to ensure our care was handed over and the whole situation was explained to - Midwife - Gillian.

Gillian was so attentive and informative with all the documentation that had to be completed, There was no rush and we could go at our pace - Gillian was always easy to talk to and very understanding and caring and the amazing care and compassion, cups of tea and thing to take home to ensure our care went beyond the hospital setting is something that Gillian make sure we where prepared for again I just want to say thank you.

The whole experience was made alot easer to mentally and physically deal with because of all 3 of these fantastic midwifes, You all are amazing people and you should be righfully creditied with the praise you deserve so thank you again.
