I experienced a traumatic birth and postpartum period with my first child. I did not seek any help to process this at the time, however when I fell pregnant with my second baby I was referred to the Maternity and Neonatal Psychological Interventions team within the RAH in Paisley.
From around 12 weeks pregnant, I met regularly with specialist midwife Stephanie who was simply amazing - I felt so supported from our first meeting and we worked together to identify the root of my previous birth trauma.
One session included a walk around the labour ward again, with Stephanie and my husband, which was something I really needed - to be able to see it in a different light again and prepare myself for going back second time around.
This time, I opted for a planned c-section which was a wonderful experience, and hugely healing for my first birth. Stephanie was brilliant at really listening to me, often putting what I was feeling or thinking into words far better than I could manage myself.
After my daughter was born, she went above and beyond to check in with me - coming to see us in the hospital after delivery and again when I was readmitted for complications with my own blood pressure.
Stephanie is wonderful at what she does, and she has had a hugely positive impact on my care this time round. I can't thank her enough.
