"I found the support from the group and staff invaluable"

About: Addiction services / The Asha Centre

(as a service user),

I struggled for the most part of my life with alcohol addiction. It got to a point where it made me seriously ill with a lot of health issues. I couldn't take it anymore, if I carried on drinking I would die. Then I got in contact with the community addiction worker and they got me into ASHA in-patients unit in Omagh. I was very nervous and anxious as I'm not used to change.

When I arrived I was welcomed by staff and then I began my treatment. First couple of days was hard with the withdrawals but I was reassured by staff this was normal going through detox. I found the support from the group and staff invaluable and they really helped me get through it. Staff were very friendly.

All the classes we had and groups were really helpful. I felt well looked after during my stay. I completed the 4 week program and I now feel ready for a fresh start without alcohol.
