"I 100% felt like they cared, listened & understood me"

About: Royal Cornwall Hospital (Treliske) / Gynaecology

(as a service user),

I have been having a lot of lady problems and never really felt heard, until I come to Trelisk and was seen by Tom and his team - Carly, Becky and Chris. They made me feel at ease instantly, kept me smiling and I 100% felt like they cared, listened & understood me while giving me full dignity and respect in such a vulnerable procedure.

I had a Hysteroscopy which is where they look into your womb with a small camera (for any one who doesn’t know like me). I had biopsies taken and a coil put in after. I can honestly say Iv heard some horror story’s but would never look it up. I’m glad I didn’t because it was absolutely fine. Girls nothing is comfortable but as for pain- I had nothing.

I was told that Tom was brilliant and I would like to now agree. After the procedure he had sent me my full plan of what procedures would be carried out next if I was happy before I had even got my shoes back on. Carly explained everything for after care perfectly to me so I knew exactly what was to be expected.

They clearly all work so well together and how much they put you at ease is a definite 5* from me. I have felt so very low after 4 children, heavy periods that just can’t be controlled, indescribable lower tummy pain and blood from the back passage which runs uncontrollably. If I empty my bladder while on my period, I am doubled over hanging off the toilet in agony and pain is usually something I can tolerate with having EDS.

At first thinking this was all normal with age and having the condition but I couldn’t do it anymore. I went to the doctors time and time again but not wanting to bother them every week as they didn’t seem too concerned, giving me more meds for going to the loo and stronger pain relief. Until I couldn’t stand another day stuck in my house with blood and crippling pain. I begged them.

I have since changed doctors and everything is now being looked into thankfully. I want to personally thank Carly, Becky & Chris for being who you are and doing your job with compassion. Also Tom who gave me a voice again and an aim to get my life back on track.

I’m once again excited for the future 🙂

Hello AK86,

I am so glad we were able to support you through what we know is a slightly daunting experience.

I am sure that your feedback will reassure other ladies coming to our department for a similar procedure. Thank you for taking the time to do so.

I wish you a speedy recovery!
