I would just like to say a heartfelt thank you to the doctor who saw my daughter when I presented with her at a&e. So much has happened in the past few weeks and we’ve seen so many amazing nurses and doctors I can’t remember his name - but hopefully it’ll be in my daughters notes.
I presented with my one year old little girl as she had stopped walking and had developed petechiae on her face and had now spread to her thigh all within 24hrs.
The doctor was v thorough, ran bloods and with his colleague (I believe her name was Natalie) they informed me and my husband that looking at her blood work her diagnosis they were looking at was leukaemia. (She had to have other tests first to 100% confirm but they wanted to prepare us that this would be the diagnosis). They were so professional and so empathetic whilst providing continual reassurance that this is a treatable disease.
My daughter is currently an inpatient in Schiehallion and undergoing chemotherapy. Whilst chatting to other parents on the ward I have discovered that a lot of parents took their child back and forward to their GP for several months being shrugged off before receiving a diagnosis.
The fact that we were seen so quickly, taken seriously and investigated fully - I cannot thank you enough.
