I got 4 ingrown toenails removed from my two big toes - two from each. I'm a runner and had been troubled with these over the years and had been attending my podiatrist privately to have them temporarily treated. Aimee the Podiatrist in the hospital was amazing and left me very much at ease throughout the whole appointment. She explained the procedure in detail and gave me the option of having one single toe treated or both toes.
The actual procedure was pain free other than the initial needle for the anaesthesia which is similar to the procedure used for having a tooth filled. After the procedure it was very professionally dressed, I was advised to take regular painkillers and I was given a leaflet and verbal advice on how to bathe and dress my toenails to prevent infection.
I was called to the hospital to have my toes re-dressed the following day and I was called again for a final checkup after 6 weeks. During this period I was unable to wear my slippers and I found it more comfortable to wear open sandals.
It's now eight weeks since my procedure and I am back out walking again, painfree, wearing my slippers and I hope to get back out running again in a few weeks.
