"First trip to A&E"

About: Royal Victoria Hospital / Accident & Emergency

(as a relative),

I recently attended A&E with my partner (in his 20s) who was having issues with his heart. It was my first time in A&E so I was very overwhelmed and terrified for my partner.

When he was admitted into minors, the Nurses were all rushed off their feet as it was the wee hours of Saturday morning, and my partner had to wait 8 hours to see a Doctor.

During this wait the Nursing Assistants were a god send. They kept checking in on my partner and me to make sure we were both okay. They were so cheery, compassionate and comforting that it made the wait a little bit more bearable.

I can't express enough gratitude to them and I wish I could remember their names to thank them individually. They have such a relentlessly stressful job, yet their care and the smile on their faces never wavered.

Thank you, thank you, thank you!!

Dear Evelyn97,

My name is Linsey Sheerin, I am the Divisional Nurse for Urgent and Emergency Care at Belfast Trust. Thank you for taking the time to share your experience on Care Opinion. I am sorry to read that your partner had a long wait to be seen, despite this thank you for recognising and understanding the pressures on our staff. Current challenges within the health and social care system at times can feel relentless and I am so proud of all the staff who continue to turn up and do so, with smiles on their faces.

Please do not underestimate the impact your kind words will have, I will ensure that your lovely feedback is shared with the team.

I hope your partner is currently well and making good progress in his recovery.

Linsey
