"It would be great if we could find an alternative"

About: Roe Valley / Ophthalmology

(as a parent/guardian),

My little boy was seen at Roe Valley Hospital. Both staff members delivered a kind and empathetic service and were very understanding. However my little boy was unable to have his eye test completed as he would not get the drops put in his eye.

My son has a visual impairment where he is under the care of the Royal Victoria Hospital Ophthalmology Team. At his last review they informed us that he could have his eye test done locally in community Opticians and they would continue to review the health of his eyes every 12 to 18 months.

My little boy is completely traumatised at the thought of getting eye drops put in and I'm wondering is this a requirement for an eye test to renew his current prescription? The recent appointment was extremely traumatic for him and for me as a parent and it would be great if we could find an alternative or if drops are a requirement.

I feel from your feedback that this issue was raised before from the information you have kindly shared, I think I may have offered to discuss your concerns before. If this is the case, I am sorry to hear that we have not resolved this matter with you and perhaps explained the rationale for using this treatment approach in enough detail with you, Therefore I would like to take this opportunity to reach out again invite you to contact the dept/ me on 028 71611356 (Optometry secretary or Patrick.mccanney@westerntrust.hscni.net…… so we can further discuss your son’s case together. I feel this would be the best way to discuss drops vs no drops for your child.

Kind regards,

Patrick
