I recently managed to cut my hand with a Stanley knife. I knew immediately that it was deep and would require stitches. My wife and I went straight to Stobhill Hospital, Glasgow to the MIU. Unfortunately it was 8.30pm and the unit closed at 9.00pm. However, the staff were very attentive and saw me within 5 minutes of my arrival. They informed me that they were closing but that I would need to go to the Royal. They put on a temporary dressing and phoned ahead.
Despite the fact that the unit was closing they were attentive and caring enough to want to ensure that I was looked after. This was the recurring theme throughout my treatment over the next short period. At the Royal Infirmary in Glasgow, although I had to wait a few hours, all of the staff from the nurses to the doctors were just amazing. I had to return early the next morning after a few hours sleep for an operation to fix a nerve, and every member of staff in the Plastic Surgery Department were absolutely wonderful. From the nurse and doctor who saw me at the A&E, the same doctor who was at the ward the next morning preparing me for my operation despite lack of sleep, to the nurses on the ward at the plastic surgery unit, to the operation staff, the anaesthetist, the nurses in attendance, the surgeon who carried out the operations and his staff and the nurses in recovery. Thanks to all of you.
I had to return to the Plastic Surgery Outpatients Department more recently to have my stitches removed, and the physiotherapists were, like all the other staff, attentive, caring, personable and just wonderful.
I owe you all a big thank you and a debt of gratitude. You do a wonderful job and you all do it with compassion, care and a smile on your faces.
Thank you from the bottom of my........hand.
"Thank you from the bottom of my...hand"
