Previously EV charging was free at NHSGGC, but today I found out patients and visitors need to pay for charging, which is absolutely understandable in today's economic climate.
However, the overstay charges you inflict are not, they are absolutely outrageous..
I was charged for the electricity I used when parked, but was shocked to find out I had been charged an additional 400% as an overstay fee. The signage on the charger is woefully inadequate. I did not see that there was a limit to charging time when I plugged in, only once I received the shock did I have a close look at the charger, only to find that there was mention of a 4 hour limit on the sticker on the opposite side to the charge socket I was using, with nothing indicating the time limit on the side I was using.
I know NHSGGC is struggling for cash at the moment, but I hope this signage issue was a genuine oversight on QEUH’s part and not a deliberate act. I understand that companies like Tesla etc have overstay fees at their superchargers which are to encourage users to move their vehicles once they’re full and finished charging but, to apply overstay fines to a 3kw charger is outrageous as the vehicle highly unlikely to be full in the 4 hours time limit you have seen fit to impose.
I have often used the chargers at other hospitals which are faster charging and use the same Fuse app that QEUH uses, and I have never been charged an overstay fee. I feel very angry and ripped off that as a genuine user of the charge point I’m being penalised when I have frequently witnessed numerous cars parked in the EV charging bays all day which are aren’t even charging, or, more often than not, ICE cars that aren’t even capable of using the charger, despite there being numerous regular parking spaces.
