"Birth of my daughter"

About: Mater Hospital / Maternity care Maternity care / Antenal Clinic Royal Jubilee Maternity services / Continuity of Midwifery Carer Service

(as a service user),

I was extremely fortunate to be under the care of the Continuity of Midwifery Care team with this pregnancy. This experience was amazing and quite different to my previous two pregnancies.

From the first appointment, I met my amazing midwife, Aimee. She was reassuring, knowledgable and truly cared. She went above and beyond to help with my sickness in the early days and this same care continued through the whole pregnancy.

Seeing the same midwife the whole way through was such a lovely experience. She knew what I was going through and I didn’t need to repeat myself every appointment. She followed up with suggestions where needed and explained what was happening to my body and the baby at each stage.

Having appointments at the Mater was fantastic. It is such a lovely unit, calm and not overwhelming. It was always a very comforting experience attending the appointments there as there wasn’t the stress associated with waiting in a busy waiting room.

My midwife Aimee informed me of the options for birth and kept me positive and encouraged for the process. This resulted in a positive birth experience as I knew to ask for the ABC in the royal and this was such a great experience.

The team have since visited my home numerous times since the birth to check on baby and myself. They have remained in touch via txt about their visits and with answers to any concerns or questions I had.

As my daughter remains a little jaundiced, they are still visiting and this is hugely reassuring. As it is the same midwife this also really helps reassure me as she can see any difference from previous visits.

The continuity team also involved my other children throughout the pregnancy and after the birth of their sibling. Their involvement in the appointments was so lovely, and will have left lifelong memories. It really was such a lovely family environment. My midwife never failed to remember their names which was so nice.

The Continuity of Midwifery Care team at the Mater has left such a positive experience for myself and my family. It truly made this pregnancy so much more enjoyable and a calmer experience for all, compared to my previous experience with care at the gp. I am forever indebted for the wonderful care I received.

Dear Louyh34,

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience of birthing within the Continuity of Midwifery Carer (CoMC) model based within the Mater Hospital.

I will share your feedback with your named midwife Aimee and the whole CoMC team. It is lovely to hear how continuity helped you feel safe, respected and supported throughout your pregnancy journey. Having a care provider who knows you and your family really makes a difference and you are right it really does make your pregnancy journey a family event.

CoMC is proven to ensure women cared for within this model have better clinical outcomes for them and their baby, but most importantly they feel safe, valued and well informed.

It is lovely to hear that you were able to birth within your chosen place and I am delighted that you were able to experience both CoMC and birthing within the Active Birth Centre (ABC).

It is wonderful to hear that you have been provided with a truly individualised postnatal journey that continues to support you and your daughter during her early weeks of life. This model of care really enables you to build a relationship with your named midwife and the rest of the CoMC team during your antenatal, labour and postnatal journey. This relationship enables you to have semaless care across both hospital and community settings.

As a new maternity service recieving feeback from women who use this service is vital to ensuring that we provide a standard of care that women and their families want. Feedback from service users really helps the team to know that the service they are providing is truly making a difference to women and their families. I want to thank you again for taking the time to feedback and I wish you and your family well.

Kind Regards,

Susanne Thomas O'Boyle
