I wanted to tell you about the amazing care my mother-in-law who is in her 80s, and the rest of the family, recently received from the staff of Ward 9B in Glasgow's Queen Elizabeth University Hospital.
She was admitted with a significant bowel obstruction, which she had suffered from on previous occasions, and was admitted to ward 9B for treatment. Antibiotic drip was commenced and options discussed with my mother-in-law and the rest of the family.
However, we were called at 4am in the morning, as she had taken a turn for the worse, despite the excellent care she was receiving, as a consequence of other underlying medical conditions. We were informed in the most sympathetic way to prepare for the worse and began a family vigil which ended with her death.
Staff at all times were so respectful and caring, washing and changing my mother-in-law, administering meds to relieve congestion, and just taking great care of us as a family at an incredibly difficult time. This care continued after my mother-in-law had passed, with paperwork arriving exactly when promised to allow us to plan for the next steps.
I cannot thank the ward staff enough and unfortunately can't remember all names but Connor and Kate the Health Care Support Workers and Kirsty , the Nurse who administered Meds throughout the night to keep my mother-in-law comfortable, are just some of them but all were amazing.
I have never been more proud of the NHS and the exemplary care shown by every Doctor, Nurse and HCSW during this time and I would like to pass on the grateful thanks of all the family.
"Staff at all times were so respectful and caring"
