Firstly, can I say, as always, the receptionists at FVRH were friendly and welcoming.
However, I had the misfortune to be referred to Neurology Outpatient Department by a GP. When my name was called, I was met with a poker-faced doctor who glared at me and asked me if I was (my name) and asked what my date of birth was, then I was ushered into a room.
I was asked what my symptoms are, then the doctor continued by complaining that the GP referral letter did not say much. When I started explaining, I was continually interrupted and cut off. The doctor did not seem interested and wanted me out as quickly as possible. Yes, I was given a few tests, but they felt rushed too.
Doctors have gone through many exams…. but unfortunately caring, compassion and the ability to listen are things you cannot get out of a textbook. Thankfully many doctors have this naturally. If there was an exam for these qualities, this doctor would have failed miserably (no pun intended). Not even one smile during my very short appointment.
I was referred by a GP; this was not a self-referral! I was left feeling that I was making it all up. I have had my body a long time and I should be given some credit for knowing when things are not right! I did not need this upset.
Since my appointment, in desperation, I have been researching the meds I am on, and I have found one that has rare side effects which can cause the problems I am having. It was the third time I had contacted my GP Practice about the problems before being referred to Neurology. Very worrying not one of these visits even considered this and not at this appointment either. Of course, I will now be returning to the GP.
