"Gynaecologist and Mirena coil "

About: Tameside General Hospital / Gynaecology

(as the patient),

After a fantastic experience during my fitting of the Mirena coil, I expected the removal of said coil to be the same! I had the Mirena fitted sometime ago but due to severe side effects I decided to have it removed. When my appointment was booked the team asked me what the appointment was for therefore were fully aware of what I had asked.

During my appointment for removal the doctor argued I had the Mirena for a number of months duration, 6 months they said and not the 6-7 weeks (so my notes were wrong)! The doctor was unaware I was here for the removal and said they would have to see if there was a nurse available to help them remove it. The nurse observed him with their arms folded and neither of them discussed what was going to happen, gave no reassurance and made me feel undignified!

The device insertion was painful of which I burst into tears and I was asked if I wanted the treatment to stop in a very unsympathetic manner. It was said to me, "look if you are going to cry and it hurts then I'm not going to take it out".

The overall attitude during my visit was disgusting and I felt like there was no care involved at all! Nothing like during the insertion when there was a team of professionals who made me feel at ease. I felt this visit was unorganised as my notes were wrong and the doctor was unaware why I was there! I was made to feel my Mirena removal was an inconvenience as they had to find a spare nurse and also made to feel embarrassed due to the way I was treated when I cried in pain. There was no sympathy or reassurance.

It's a shame I had such a bad visit when my previous visit had been so organised and well cared for as a patient.

Thank you for taking the time to provide this important feedback.

Please can I apologize that you feel your care was of a poor standard following an initial positive experience.
