My son is in his early 30's and has severe learning disabilities. He lives in supported living with 3 other men.
He has always struggled with relationships. He is eager to please so when there is a female that is interested in him and wants to be his girlfriend he does everything he can to keep them happy. In the past this has caused him a lot of anxiety. He also struggles with personal space and talking to everyone he meets, as if they are his friend. He sees no bad in anybody and this makes him very vulnerable. He can easily be taken advantage of.
He has recently attended a course on sexual health and relationships. I wasn't sure at first if he would understand the course but Lynn, who delivered the course, was very good at adapting the sessions to meet individual needs. This helped my son. Lynn and the team have helped my son have a better understanding of the laws, contraception and what a healthy relationship is as well as other topics he didn't know about.
I'm very happy I took my son along to do the course as there were some very difficult subjects to deliver but it was done superbly.
