"Told I would be waiting 2-3 years"

About: Altnagelvin Area Hospital / Gynaecology FAU (Ward 43)

(as the patient),

My GP made an urgent referral to the ovulation clinic in Altnagelvin 6 months ago.

I rang the secretary in March to which I was told I would receive a letter with my appointment within a 2 weeks. After 2 weeks past I rang them again to which I was told the Nurse would be sending the letters out soon and for an urgent referral I was going to be waiting 6 months from the referral to appointment.

Soon did not come so I then rang in April to which I was told that letters for Junes appointments would be sent out mid May. Mid May then came and I had not yet recieved my letter so I rang and was told they are going to be organising a clinic for June 4th. I had told them I was going on holiday the week before and didn’t want to miss the letter so would ring whilst on holiday which I did.

I have been told today that the consultant has changed my referral to routine and I will be waiting for 2-3years. The secretary actually queried who told me 6 months after I have been ringing them since January! Completely devastated is not the word.

In my opinion this is 100% one of the main reasons the NHS is failing if they are employing people not competent to deal with people who are desperate and feeling so hopeless.

I believe for 6 months this person could have checked my details everytime I told them my name and my number on the phone but they waited until 1 week before an appointment to tell me I’ve been changed to non urgent.

I feel this is an absolute disgrace and complete disregard to anyone facing unexplained infertility.

beidhd64 Thank you for highlighting your recent experience. I can only apologise for the miscommunication and wish to acknowledge your frustration and disappointment with the long waiting lists. In order to gain a full understanding I would appreciate it, if you are able, to make direct contact with myself as you are aware care opinion is anonymous and I am unsure of the specific details and I would like to offer you some answers
