"Heart attack."

About: Golden Jubilee National Hospital / Advanced Heart Failure Service Golden Jubilee National Hospital / Cardiac Surgery Queen Elizabeth University Hospital Glasgow / Accident & Emergency Queen Elizabeth University Hospital Glasgow / Cardiac Rehabilitation

(as the patient),

Last year for the second time in my life I was aware that my body was not behaving, weird feelings and being out of breath.

I  had heart attack 14 years previous, but three stents had kept me going without problems.

This time was different and I was more aware that I needed attention.

Initially I went to nearby A&E at Queen Elizabeth University Hospital.

I was kept in for bed rest, but discharged several days later to await an appointment with Golden Jubilee as at that time, no beds were available.

Within that waiting time I became very uncomfortable and as the pains were so severe and took myself by taxi back to A&E.

It was confirmed that I had heart attack but again no beds available so remained in Queen Elizabeth Hospital for several days.

Eventually I was ambulances across with the thought I was to have stent, but once on the operating table, it deemed necessary for double bypass.

All this seems a bit of a blur now and more so then.

Finally had operation and stayed in Golden Jubilee for physio before getting home.

All medical staff and physio were more than helpful.

After several weeks of being dead slow and stop I started physio sessions back at Queen Elizabeth University Hospital. These are run by Theresa and several others, including Donna an on-site cardiac nurse. Without these classes and their expertise I don’t think my recovery would be so good.

It was good to be in amongst other people who had similar experiences.

The physio team were great at helping you forward and always had patients best interests at heart.

Always trying to help you in any way they could, and with Donna onsite, it was good to be able to ask any questions re medication or anything related to individual circumstances.

Terrific to feel that you had backup if needed and were not on your own.

To me The Physio Team very simply the best!!!

And probably not praised enough.
