I think it is really important to tell people about my experience at the Sexual Health Clinic. I know you don’t usually associate a visit to Sexual Health as a joyful experience, but it truly was.
I was confronted with two nurses that were just… delightful. They had me laughing all the way through, easing my mind and making me feel comfortable.
In the past, at other hospitals, I have had some very judgemental experiences. I think that as a gay person, there can be so many preconceptions about our lifestyle (not my expression). I have to say, I just felt completely accepted and not judged by these two fabulous women.
These incredible people do such a fantastic job in such difficult circumstances. I felt very lucky to be in the hands of people that I felt very trustful of. I think it is so hard to trust strangers, but the nurses filled me with a lot of confidence. They explained everything clearly and calmly, re-explaining if I required it.
A few days later I received a call from a different nurse, who was just exceptional. Kind, caring, understanding and just a joy to speak to. I feel so lucky to live in a country that has the NHS and at a time when it is under an immense amount of pressure it is still able to offer me exactly what I need and in the kindest of ways.
Give them a pay rise! And I hope that a big boss at Raigmore hospital and in NHS Scotland get to see what a sensational job the Sexual Health clinic does. Well done guys - I am eternally grateful for everything.
"A joyful experience"
