"Nurse prescribers are an excellent asset"

About: Altnagelvin Area Hospital / GP Out of Hours (Phone First)

I have been unfortunate with ailments that have been debilitating in the past few months.

I reluctantly had contacted Out of Hours doc on with shortness of breath, temperature and productive cough and being unwell from after work that day.

I was contacted very promptly after telephoning by a Nurse prescriber Debbie. I was feeling very unwell and knew I had another chest infection. Nurse Debbie took a very thorough history. She was very professional and compassionate in her approach. She listened to my concerns and was understanding in that she accepted that I knew I had a chest infection. She was able to prescribe an antibiotic within a short period of time which helped to ease my symptoms within 24 hours. I appreciated that she was willing to consider my opinion on my health condition.

She provided great advice regarding worsening of my condition and was able to put me at ease knowing I would be able to start treatment so soon as opposed to waiting until the morning for a GP appointment.

Excellent invaluable service and nurse prescribers are an excellent asset to the health service.
