"You can tell the difference with staff that actually care"

About: New Stobhill Hospital / Skye House (Glasgow Adolescent Inpatient Unit)

(as a service user),

Skye House is supposed to be a safe place that helps with recovery. It has instead left me with trauma.

I feel some of the staff in this place should not be working with mentally unwell children (not all but a fair few of them). Throughout the time I spent here I was told by certain staff members that I have nothing to be sad about, being told that I was ridiculous and pathetic after an incident, saying I will never get better and I will constantly be in and out of these places, as well as a group of us being labelled eating disorders instead of using our names. Not to mention the bruises i was covered in due to safe holds.

Some of the agency staff they allow to work in this place appear to be getting paid for standing about doing nothing while other patients are trying to keep each other safe, the amount of times I walked in on other patients harming themselves when agency staff that were supposed to be on their 'constant observations' but were instead scrolling on their phones. That's not even a quarter of what I went through in here.

On a more positive note I was really lucky with my care team. One of the doctors went above and beyond, fully supported me. The Occupational therapists and activities coordinator were absolutely amazing, can't thank them enough for always being there for me! My case manager was a massive support, my dietitian was an absolute angel, my psychologist was so caring and understanding, Domestics were lovely! There was also a lot of amazing staff in there that I did get along with and did help me through so much. You can tell the difference with staff that care and put their heart and soul into the job.
