"Delay in responding to call bells"

About: Norfolk & Norwich University Hospital

(as a relative),

As an inpatient on Guist ward at the Norfolk and Norwich hospital the call bell was not answered in a timely manner on most occasions, it would take more than 20 minutes to respond, then when the HCA or nurse came, they would say they were unable to help with my needs but would ask someone else or forget to come back with what I had requested.

When you are an inpatient who is unable to move out of the bed due to an infusion or mobility problem, it is so distressing, disempowering and upsetting.

The staff did not come across as being empathetic or caring. I appreciate they are busy, perhaps short staffed so clearly need managers to ensure adequate staffing levels and more support for HCAs and nurses. Perhaps audit how long it is taking for call bells to be responded to by asking patients.
