"Trying to access medication"

About: Fountain Medical Centre

(as a service user),

The previous night i had been told by 111 to access medication to stop me itching while withdrawing from a drug first thing in the morning from a GP.  I had not slept for 3 days and called to ask to speak to a GP to ask for a prescription.  I was told i could not speak with a doctor and to go buy some.  I explained that they would probably be of prescription strength so needed prescription. I am weaning  my self off pain killers and were told to go buy some more for the pain.  When i explained i was trying not to take any others pain killers, i was asked the second time if i needed the Mental Health team number. The crisis team put me through to 111 the night before. I was very confused.

After several declines by the member of staff I spoke to, who was not aware of any of the requests that come through from 111, we were put on hold again long enough to go to the surgery while still listening to the music. On arrival to the surgery we turned up to hear comments made in reception that were not very professional and very upsetting.

3 members of staff present with 1 GP who apparently was duty GP.  Must admit reception staff were very surprised we were actually in reception on the phone and went to a great deal of effort to apologise. The GP did not acknowledge our presence.

I've come away from this incident  feeling hurt, angry, sad, worthless and sorry that i dared to think i could be such a horrible individual who the world has given up on.  My eyes are tired, my head is confused. My dignity in tatters and all my self respect gone.  Thank you for listening . I've got no more fight in me.
