"Terrible smoke fumes coming into hospital ward"

About: Queen Elizabeth University Hospital Glasgow / Same Day Urgent Care Centre (SDUCC)

(as a service user),

I was at the SDUCC at the QEUH in Glasgow. I had a very tight chest & breathing difficulties so my GP sent me there.

I was called up for some tests & had to walk through the hallway & past an exit to outside some double doors - I couldn’t believe how much smoke was coming into the hospital through the exit doors.

For someone who was admitted because of breathing difficulties that is the last thing they needed but it would have been not nice for anyone. Smoke, weed, vapes in a huge cloud - it was completely overpowering.

As a patient it was unacceptable but I also feel for the staff working there either & breathing it in every. People should not be allowed to smoke outside those doors.

Dear Angelica 736,

I am sorry that you have recently been unwell and I hope you are recovering. I would like to thank you for sharing your concern with us.

We are aware of this ongoing issue and are working with the police on campus daily who are taking action when appropriate. People are actively discouraged from smoking any substance in these areas and are asked to move away from the building to comply with hospital smoking policy.

I have ensured staff are aware to contact campus police when people are at the door smoking or vaping to try and have a smoke free entrance.

Again thank you for taking the time to share your concern with us.
