I want to thank Toni who is a specialist osteoporosis nurse at the RAH in Paisley. I am a nurse myself and she was able to arrange for me to have an urgent bone scan and diagnosed me the same day with severe osteoporosis (I'm in my 30s). Current waiting time is 1-3years I believe. She also urgently referred me to an osteoporosis consultant who I’ve seen about 2 months later (current waiting time is 10months) and I am now getting started on daily injections as my bone mass is so low and I have 2 spinal fractures.
I was also admitted to hospital a few times since seeing Toni and been diagnosed and she took the time to come and see me both times I was in. She is an amazing nurse and if she didn’t get the bone scan for me when she did I would still be waiting for treatment and answers. I am due to start my injections soon and this will hopefully prevent further fractures.
Over the past 4.5 years no one has listened to me, or taken my back pain seriously but Toni did. The osteoporosis consultant diagnosed with pregnancy induced osteoporosis (I had my son 4.5 years ago) and this is when all my pain started.
I also want to thank dr Ritchie and his secretary Shauni (he is based at the Gartnavel. He’s also another person who believed me that something was wrong and done extensive blood tests and scans which found the spinal fractures and he then referred me to have a bone scan and to the another osteoporosis consultant who I don’t have to see now as I’ve been seen by a different person.
Unfortunately I can't say all my feedback is positive over the past 4.5 years but now I finally have answers and I’ve been taken seriously. As my bone health is so bad and fragile I’ve had to give up my job as a nurse, it’s devastating, however I hope to find a suitable job and still be a part of the nhs team.
"An amazing nurse"
