The fact that this procedure is done without anaesthetic is barbaric, in my view. I received no literature to explain what to expect.
However when I arrived at LRI, the team were amazing. I told them I didn't know what I was expecting and the surgeon took her time to explain the procedure and after care. And the theatre manager held my hand and talked to me to distract me from the pain. He helped me through the gas and air. The team were fantastic.
I was not expecting the childbirth-like pain though nor the bleeding that came afterwards. This procedure should be done under general anaesthetic.
