We attended LRI children’s A&E on advice from NHS 111. On arrival we were seen immediately by someone who asked why we were there and then asked us to join a queue. We queued for ~30mins before seeing someone who took our details and prioritised our visit. After this we were seen promptly by multiple nurses and eventually a doctor. All in all we were there for 3 hours which included a CT scan and results.
Considering how busy the area was I was impressed with how polite and friendly the staff were, how clean the unit appeared and overall found the service to be relatively unstressful. I felt heard by the members of staff and that they spoke to us with respect, they made my child feel comfortable and seemed to genuinely care.
A&E visits have a bad reputation due to wait times and I dreaded going but genuinely impressed with this unit. One thing that would’ve been better was that there were a lot of sick children (coughing etc) which made me feel uncomfortable. More space to socially distance in waiting rooms or option to wait outside would be great but understand this is not always possible.
