"Amazing care of family members"

About: Antrim Area Hospital / Ward A1 Respiratory

(as a relative),

I cannot begin to describe how thankful we are and how much we appreciate the staff in ward A1, AAH.

My uncle was admitted last year with lung cancer and sadly died recently. The care he received was exceptional. We couldn't have asked for better.

Just a month later, my grandmother was then diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer. From autumn last year she was then in and out of A1 with pneumonia, infections and then pneumonitis caused by chemo. With every hospital admission, my grandmother always asked for A1 as that's where she felt most safe and at ease. The staff are amazing and became more like family in the end.

We went through such a traumatic year in that ward and, honestly, I personally could not have got through it without some of those nurses- specifically Leanne, Bebhinn, Gemma, Alyson, Debbie, Lesley-Ann and Sharon, as well as many of the other staff who my grandmother was very fond of.

My grandmother had to be moved to Macmillan in the end but, even then, the support from A1 staff was incredible. Many of the nurses visited her after their shifts or on their days off because they knew they brought her so much joy and comfort.

My grandmother past away in May this year and, right to the end, those nurses were there. They are absolute earth angels and we will forever be grateful. My grandmother loved them like family, we were treated like family, and they've left a lasting imprint on our hearts. No words I could ever say would do the staff on that ward the justice that they deserve. I've had family members in other wards previously and never experienced care quite like it.

From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for caring for my uncle and grandmother with such love, dedication, dignity and compassion right to the very end.

Hi giftfr76

Firstly I would like to pass on my sincere condolences for your losses. I know these losses have been felt by the team in A1 also.

I would like to thank you for your extremely positive feedback regarding the team in A1. I have shared your feedback with the whole team and it is encouraging for us and the team to understand the impact they have on patient and family experience.
