After being on a waiting list for 2 yrs I was finally called forward for surgery at Inverclyde. First of all I would say I was kept informed prior by Gill, so my pre-op went extremely smoothly, on arriving I was allocated a bed and admitted to ward K North.
I was 3rd on the list and was kept informed during the day. When finally it was my turn , I was first briefed by the anaesthetist who told me my options and I decided to be awake and be numbed and sedated from the waist down (tho wary it was a great).
Theatre staff treated me with great empathy and professionalism, even some calming humour. On completion, I was returned to the ward and finally got something to eat. That night wasn’t great but I was given pain relief and help.
The next day was busy! Wound checked,  X-ray done and then the start of physio and occupational therapy. Both of the departments were excellent and I was discharged by 3pm, less than 24 hrs from my surgery.
I would wish to thank all the staff that helped me - ward nurses, auxiliary staff, porters, special thanks to the surgery team and physios.
Only down side was the food  and I fully understand this, but even when soup delivered and I asked what it was, I was told - I don’t know!
So finally total success and a good experience apart from the obvious pain😉
