My 89 year old dad went into QEUH with leg infection in mid April. Sadly he continued to deteriorate and the staff in Ward 8A prepared us for the fact that he would not recover. My mum and I were with dad on the afternoon of 1st May and we both wanted to stay overnight which was wat happened.
The care and compassion extended to both my dad and my mum and myself was amazing. From trying to make us comfortable with beds and cups of tea and kindness, humour and humanity - really helped us both at a dreadful time.
Hospital staff enter lives at times of crisis and pain, having to tell families what we don't want to hear. But all members of staff on Ward 8A spoke to us clearly but with kindness and I personally really needed that.
My mum and I were given space, privacy and time to be with my dad, it was the greatest privilege to be with him.
Please pass on our genuine thanks to everyone who cared for my dad. Dad had been in QEUH several times over the past few years and we always encountered wonderful staff.
Thank you.
"Wonderful care when my dad passed away"
