"Diagnosis of brain tumour"

About: Queen Elizabeth University Hospital Glasgow / Acute Receiving Unit (Units 1-5) Queen Elizabeth University Hospital Glasgow / Neurosurgery (Ward 64 – 66)

(as a relative),

My husband went to A&E early one morning having been seen by paramedics at home. By lunchtime he had been diagnosed with two brain tumours. He was admitted to Ward ARU 4.

I would like to thank two nurses on that ward. One gave me a telephone number to ring if I needed to talk to someone, even if it were 4.00 hours. I was returning to an empty house. The other one said I would find a strength I didn't know I had. I was well aware the prognosis was poor.

I held onto these two kindnesses when subsequently two nurses and one doctor behaved in what I considered to be a very insensitive way during the following three weeks we spent in the hospital.

Many thanks to these two nurses who helped me so much at such a difficult time.

Dear Kenv342,

I am so sorry to learn of your husbands diagnoses, I can't imagine the anxiety this will have caused your family. I thank you sincerely for taking the time to acknowledge the kindness you received from Acute Receiving Unit staff, I will ensure that this is shared with them and I know that it will be appreciated.

Kind regards,

Siobhan Rawdon

Thank you for your feedback - I will also share with our Neurosurgery team. If there is anything neurosurgery can do to continue to support your husband please do not hesitate to get in touch.

Best wishes,

Sam Atkinson
