"Hysteroscopy experience"

About: Belfast City Hospital / Gynaecology

(as the patient),

I had a failed Hysteroscopy exam where the consultant tried several times to take a punch sample. The pain was unbearable and my legs shook uncontrollably. The consultant eventually admitted defeat and went on to blame me for the failure, saying I was too anxious! Turns out after the procedure was carried out under GA that I had a vicious tumour and got diagnosed with cervical cancer stage 2B. I feel these procedures should automatically be done under a General as they cause immense trauma to most women.

Dear CertainWidow

My name is Tracey; I am the Assistant Service Manager in Gynaecology, Belfast Trust.

Thank you for your feedback in relation to your poor experience during a hysteroscopy procedure. I understand that these procedures can cause anxiety and pain for some patients. I want to apologise for the traumatic experience you had, this is something that as a team we will review and discuss. I sincerely apologise that you experienced unbearable pain during this procedure.

I understand you have had the procedure carried out under anaesthetic and I am very very sorry to note you have received a diagnosis of cervical cancer. If you wish to discuss this further please email PatientExperience@belfasttrust.hscni.net and I will be in touch with you.

I appreciate you taking the time to provide feedback to the service and once again I apologise for your poor experience.

Kind regards
