I went for a routine mammogram and was called back for further tests at the Specialist breast clinic, one week later. The breast specialist nurse explained that a small suspicious lump had been found and that I could possibly need an ultrasound, a biopsy and another mammogram, or all three.
I felt when I was given all the tests that same day I did have cancer, so when the nurse told me at the end of all the tests that I would get an appointment to see the Consultant I broke down. She was very sympathetic as I was on my own.
The following week, I was not surprised when I saw the Consultant and he confirmed the diagnosis, that I had breast cancer. He also informed me that he would be taking a few samples of the lymph glands as a precaution. A week later I had an MRI scan, which confirmed that the cancer was only in the one place.
The following week I had a pre assessment apt. and two days later I had a date for my operation the same week, as there was a cancellation. I was delighted how quickly things were moving as I just wanted the operation to be over.
Everything went well although it took me a long time to recover because of the morphine in my system. I had to stay overnight, which I was told might happen.
Throughout all the procedures, I was treated very kindly and with respect by the Consultants and all the nurses.
When I went in for my operation, the staff on the ward were also very attentive.
My experience to date has been second to none.
I was well informed from the beginning what would happen, and everything explained. I have nothing but admiration for all the staff I encountered.
"My experience to date has been second to none"
