"Dementia Support"

About: Burns Day Centre North Ayrshire Health & Social Care Partnership / Community Mental Health Team (Elderly)

(as a carer),

My wife was diagnosed with early stage alzheimers June 2023 and we were introduced to North Ayrshie dementia support service in early November 23. The 2 members of the dementia support team, Katrina & Lauren, visited weekly and gave us useful advice and information re the service available. In addition they individually took my wife out for a couple of hours for coffee or a walk and also introduced her to the Burns Activity Centre in preparation for her getting a day placement there which has now happened. Whilst both staff members were excellent  in their treatment of her and most helpful to me with their advice we have subsequently discovered that Katrina in particular championed my wife in the process of being allocated the place at the Burns Centre where she has now been attending weekly for the last 3 weeks. This has definitely eased the pressure on both of us and allowed me to attend to personal business without the worry of her care.

We can only commend both members of staff for their kindness and the very professional manner in which they delivered their expertise.

Firstly thank you for taking the time to provide feedback on your experience using the Dementia Support Service.

It is so important the introduction to services is done at a pace which is right for the individual, I'm very pleased to hear your wife is now accessing Burns Day Service and this is not only providing stimulation & activities to your wife but also providing you with some well earned time to yourself, which is vital in any caring role.

We appreciate your feedback and we will ensure that your kind comments are passed to the staff.
