I was a recent patient at Causeway Medical Ward 1 approximately just over a week ago. Most of the staff were excellent. Two Nurses in particular stood out, for their professionalism, their caring attitude towards patients and ability to calm the most anxious of patients on the ward. They are two exceptional nurses.
Unfortunately I had a terrible experience with another nurse. I do not know their name. From the outset I felt like they were treating me in a way that was very unacceptable. I believe this was because I was a smoker. Having studied ' communication' at some length I am acutely aware of how not only myself but others are being treated. This Nurse had no issue using poor communication which made me feel victimised, marginalised, a waste of resources. It was h*rrendous the way I made me feel. They did not miss one opportunity.. It got to the point where I could no longer take it and I had made the decision to 'sign myself out'. Although I knew this was not a good idea. I suffer from anxiety and if it had not been for one of the exceptional nurses I mentioned ealier I would have signed myself out. This Nurse spoke with me, calmed me down and I changed my mind and decided to stay. I have never complained about any causeway staff but I'm making this complaint 10% for myself and 90% for other v*lnerable ill patients in the future. I found myself smoking more because of how I was treated,
