"Waiting times and poor patient service"

About: General practices in Fife Queen Margaret Hospital / Paediatrics

(as a parent/guardian),

My baby has been referred twice to the paediatrician team in Fife - one when he was only 4 weeks old & again an “urgent” referral a few weeks later….

We finally got an appointment through, to then be told it was cancelled and pushed back a further two months. My baby is now 5 months old & is now to wait until he’s 7 months old to see a peditrician. There are no words to describe how angry and frustrated we are.

We have been reviving poor medical service from our GP’s and constantly told they don’t know what’s wrong with him, to then be told one GP thinks it’s this and another thinks it’s that.. we have actually stopped taking our baby to see the GP and have been silently managing things at home. We were so happy and felt relieved to finally have an appointment through only for it to be postponed by 2 months, I assume in administration and not somebody medical making that decision.

Whilst I appreciate that there are peditrician’s off sick, on holiday, short staffed… to wait 4 months to be seen only for it to be pushed back by another 2 months is utterly disgusting. This is poor service. Whilst our GP fobs us off and some admit they don’t know what’s wrong.. our baby has to deal with all his issues without any indication that anybody genuinely cares. I am disappointed with the paediatrician services in Fife.

From a mother and from your colleague within the NHS, do better! Be better!
