"Anxiety in pregnancy"

About: Psychological therapies / Maternity and Neonatal Psychological Intervention Services (MNPI)

(as the patient),

After a traumatic neonatal experience with my first baby and a subsequent miscarriage I was referred to Dr MacDonald by my midwife as I was suffering with anxiety and low mood in my next pregnancy. She has helped me more than I can put into words.

As part of one of my appointments we visited the neonatal unit, spoke to some of the nurses and walked through the areas that I spent time in and I can confidently say that it has changed the way I look at the experience - it doesn’t feel like trauma anymore but an experience that I can even take positives from. It feels that a huge weight has been lifted.

Dr MacDonald supported me through my pregnancy, checked in with me soon after my birth and continued to support me in my postpartum period giving me invaluable strategies to deal with anxiety in day to day life, specifically health anxiety.

I strongly believe every woman who has had an experience in the neonatal unit should be offered this kind of support. It’s a life changing experience to witness your newborn baby become so unwell and I’m so grateful that I was able to referred to this service.

Thank you Dr MacDonald, your kindness, support, advice and expertise has helped me more than I can say.

Dear Klsfan891,

I was saddened to hear of the difficulties you had experienced during the neo-natal phase with your first born and also your loss during a later pregnancy. I can appreciate how these experiences were contributing to you struggling during your recent pregnancy,

Thank you for taking the time to give feedback on how helpful you found the support of Dr Macdonald throughout your recent pregnancy and post-partum period and that you have been able to view your experiences from a different perspective as a consequence of this support.

I will pass on your positive feedback to Dr Macdonald and the team.

Many thanks

Rachel
