"Has given me a new sense of purpose and confidence"

About: Community Mental Health (Dundee) / Perinatal & Infant Mental Health Community Nurses (Dundee)

(as a service user),

I was introduced to the Tayside Perinatal Mental Health Team when my second child was born last year. I was really struggling to believe in myself and my abilities as a mother and as an individual. I was introduced to a mental health nurse, Jordan, and felt as though she seen me as an equal and heard me- what I was trying to say, and what I wasn’t able to put into words fully myself.

She has helped me believe in my capabilities, recognise my strengths, help me navigate through becoming a young mother of two as well as a university student and supported me in continuing my studies; Jordan has overall grown my confidence and happiness in all aspects of my life and given me a newfound hope for my family and I's future.

Reflecting back over the past year, I can’t believe how much my family dynamic and myself have changed completely for the better. This most definitely would not have been possible without Jordan’s ongoing support.

The whole perinatal team made me feel comfortable and informed throughout my experience as they are such a tight knit team, I was supported at appointments with the lovely Dr Day, making the steps towards looking for answers regarding who I am and what my needs are and accepting myself.

I am feeling quite emotional now that my journey has come to an end with Dr Day and Jordan, but I cannot thank them enough for all that they have done for me. I am now feeling comfortable about moving forward with my family and am completely shocked about all they have helped me achieve in what now seems like such a short period of time.

Good morning "sloan00"

On behalf of Jordan, Dr Day and the team, I would like to thank you for taking the time to write such a lovely post about your experience with the Tayside Perinatal Mental Health Team and, how you felt supported throughout your journey following the birth of your second baby. It is lovely to hear you describe how you have grown in confidence and self-belief in your ability as a young mum, whilst balancing motherhood and university studies, which is an amazing undertaking and achievement! It is wonderful to hear you describe that you feel happier and that you and your family's dynamic has changed completely for the better and this has given you a newfound hope for the future.

The team all genuinely feel it is a privilege to work alongside women and their families during this special period of time in people's lives and to have the opportunity to play a part in helping making a difference to their wellbeing and improving lives.

Taking the time out of what I am sure is a very busy day to reflect on your your journey and share your experience of accessing support in the perinatal period, will I am sure, encourage other mums who are struggling to reach out for help and instil hope that they too can feel better and recover, should they read this.

Your feedback will be shared with Jordan, Dr Day and the rest of the team, and behalf of us all, we wish you and your young family lots of happy time ahead.
