"The course is excellent"

About: Promoting Well Being / Diabetes Prevention team

(as the patient),

Was referred by my doctor back in September 23 for the above course of 18 sessions - first 6 once a week, second 6 once fortnightly, and the last 6 once a month.

When I was referred to the course my blood sugars readings  were 47, which is counted as pre diabetic, 48 being classed as diabetic, I am now down to 41 which is classed as within the normal range (Hoping to reduce it further).

The course is excellent and does requires a lot of effort on one's behalf and covers everything you need to know about diabetes and what can be done to prevent or greatly reduce the chances of getting it.

The course was run by a lovely lady called Katrina, who without her words of encouragement and coaching we might never have made it till the end.

If you are offered a place on such a course for god sake go and see it through till the end. It will save you a hell of a lot of health problems down the line. Not to mention the millions of pounds in the health service.

Good Morning 'one of the lucky ones',

Firstly, thank you for taking the time to share your experience of the Diabetes Prevention Programme in the Southern Health and Social Care Trust.

I am delighted to hear that you felt the programme was excellent and covers all aspects of diabetes prevention and lifestyle changes to reduce risk. As you said, to make the changes it requires consistent effort. The fantastic reduction in your own HbA1c is a testament to your own personal commitment not only to this programme but also your own health. A big congratulations on completing the programme and making the changes to get your HbA1c down. Keep up the good work!

We are very lucky to have a great team. I will share your feedback with Katrina and the wider team - I know they will be delighted!

Thank you again for your positive feedback. The DPP team wish you continued success and good health!

Kind Regards,

Kathryn Bleakney

Diabetes Prevention Programme Manager
