"There were toys and ice cream"

About: Royal Aberdeen Children's Hospital / Surgical Paediatrics (Children's Surgery)

(as a service user),

I arrived at Aberdeen children's hospital with my mummy to get 7 teeth out, I was feeling brave. I find a lot of things taste yucky, there is only one toothpaste I like and I will spit out any medicine my mum gives me.

I was first down that morning and I started to feel much less brave, I didn't like the mask and I really didn't like the medicine. My nurses and the play specialist were very patient with me, even after three failed attempts. Eventually I felt calm and went off to sleep.

When I woke I was pretty upset, my nose and tongue felt all numb, but when I got up to the ward there were toys and ice cream and in no time I felt a lot better! I am so glad that I managed to get my bad teeth out and want to thank all the staff who helped me.

Hi CJNinja

Thank you so much for telling us about your visit to the children's hospital to get your teeth out. It can be a very scary place especially if you are not sure about what will happen but it sounds like you were very brave.

Sometimes it takes time to work up the courage to get things done and that is ok and I am glad the nurses and play specialists were patient and able to help you.

Ice cream and toys after sounds amazing though. I think I would like that too.

I hope that now your bad teeth are gone that lots of things taste yummy rather than yucky.

I will show the staff your feedback and am sure they will be very pleased they were able to help you.
