"Extremely limited gluten free options"

About: Royal Belfast Hospital for Sick children

(as a staff member posting for a carer/relative),

In the children’s hospital there is extremely limited Gluten Free options for coeliac people.

The vending machines only had one type of crisps and one type of chocolate bar. The coffee shop was very limited too.

In a hospital setting I feel it should be a better variety of food for all the different patients and visitors that comes here with food allergies. It should also be very important to try to swap these foods for healthier ones. I work for the HSC and go to schools to promote healthy eating and it would be a great idea that this is also implemented in hospitals as it is a place to promote health.

Thanks.

Hi

Thanks for the feedback, we are currently sourcing a range of products to add to our Gluten free range in the Coffee Doc and we are asking the vending contractor to increase the Gluten Free selection in all vending on the hospital site, our menu is fully coded to outline food allergens and special diets and we will continue to work with the speak and language department as well as the dieticians to improve the selection available on the RVH site.

Again many thanks for the feedback.
