"Paediatric diabetes out-patient appointment"

About: Warwick Hospital / Paediatrics

(as a parent/guardian),

Yesterday I took my son to his out-patients appointment. I was so appalled at the whole experience that I am considering transferring his care.

On arrival it was announced that it was my son's annual review; we had not been told at the previous appointment this would be the case so we were unprepared and excluded from the process from the outset.

This was compounded by my son's DSN being absent as she was on leave and she is the only person who knows him well and has an overview of his care since his diagnosis 2 years ago as the team has run on locum cover due to sickness and vacancies.

The doctor then spent the entire appointment working her way through the review form. Sadly this form does not appear to include how my son or I feel, are coping, what we have questions about, difficulties and challenges we are experiencing or aspirations or goals my son has.

Essentially our presence was merely to allow the doctor to complete the form. Neither my son or I felt safe, included or part of the process. I was absolutely disgusted.

We are very sorry to hear about this. We would really like to establish what happened with your Son's care. Please could you email communications@swft.nhs.uk with further details and we will investigate thoroughly.
