"Recent admission, excellent care and life saving treatment"

About: Accident & Emergency / Emergency Theatres General Surgery / Theatre Recovery Ninewells Hospital / Gynaecology

(as a relative),

My wife was having issues with bleeding, we contacted the ward who facilitated us being seen that day. While we were being assessed, things took a turn for the worse and my wife had a major haemorrhage.

The team's actions were swift and efficient, managing to stop the bleeding and stabilise her. I have no doubt in my mind whatsoever that the gynae on call team saved her life that night.

We were in regular contact with the team, they identified what was going on and performed surgery to rectify the problem. I am pleased to say she is now making a steady recovery.

I am indebted to the whole gynaecology team at Ninewells hospital. The level of care we received was exemplary and I can’t thank them enough, they were so supportive to my wife and also to myself and could not have done more to help us.

This list isn’t exhaustive as everyone was fantastic but I would in particular like to thank:

Dr Haldane, Dr Gillan, Dr Harvey and RN Suzanne for their quick thinking and for saving my wife’s life.

HCA Darcy for jumping in to a challenging environment, being really friendly and helping to support and relieve our anxiety that night.

Nurses Suzanne, Aileen and Rosie for being amazing to my wife and I.

Registrars Olivia and Frederick for seeing us overnight following the initial event and being genuinely lovely and supportive.

Samantha in recovery who was amazing with my wife and gave her exemplary care.

The anaesthetic team, including Dr Cumming Dr Forteath, and the theatre team for facilitating her operation whilst being friendly, reassuring and making her feel at ease. They also helped keep her comfortable post operatively for which I am extremely grateful.

Lastly,  I would like to thank Dr Youssef for his exemplary care, assessment, diagnostic and surgical skills, thanks to him the problem is now fixed and my wife’s quality of life will be back to normal in no time. He was so kind and considerate to us whilst simultaneously being amazing at what he does. I can’t thank him enough for everything he has done for us.

There are many more people who were amazing to us on this journey, well done to the whole team and thanks again! What a team!

Thank you so much for taking the time to provide feedback on your wife's recent hosptial admission and subsequent surgery.

I have shared this feeback with our Recovery Team who will be delighted at your comments and in particular our Recovery Nurse Samantha who cared for your wife.

It is always very rewarding when someone takes the time to share their thoughts about their experience and when they acknowledge the hard work and dedication provided by our teams.

I do hope your wife is recovering well.

Hi APM90,

I am writing this response on behalf of the Charge Nurses and Senior Charge Nurse in Ward 36 NWH.

Firstly thank you so very much for taking the time to provide this feedback, it has truly made us smile. I am so sorry to hear that your wife was unwell, but glad she is on her way to making a full recovery. I will ensure that this feedback is forwarded to all of our colleagues, especially those you have named and thank them personally for their quick thinking, kindness and support they gave both you and your wife.

Wishing you both the very best.

Kind Regards,

Martha
