"Mother's care"

About: Scottish Ambulance Service / Emergency Ambulance University Hospital Hairmyres / Medicine for the Older Adult (wards 13 - 16)

(as a relative),

Our mother - in her 90s - was recently admitted to Hairmyers hospital. The care she received from ambulance crew, Drs, and nurses that we came into contact with was excellent.

Due to how unwell mum was, she was admitted for end of life care, as a family we cannot express in words how much  the care, compassion and kindness shown to mum and us as a family meant.

The staff in ward 18b cannot be praised enough for how they made what was a very difficult time much easier to bear. The professionalism and compassionate care  from all staff is second to none.

The hostess on the ward could not have been kinder, offering breakfast, tea soup as we were at mum's bedside 24hrs a day for four days.

This professionalism and care made us feel that her dignity and individuality was restored as we felt this had been lost due to dementia and being in a care home.

The nursing staff brought a light hearted feel to a sad situation and gauged well how as a family we would react to this staying respectful.

Nothing was ever too much trouble for them and they attended to mum's needs promptly allowing her the dignity to pass peacefully.

Thank you once again, this will stay with us as a family and help us moving forward.

Dear Grewm96,

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience. Please accept my sincere condolences to you and your family on the passing of your mother.

Thank you very much for your kind wards and I will ensure that these are shared with all the staff in ward 18b. The staff do work extremely hard to ensure that they are delivering person centred care at all times and I am sure your kind words and comments will be greatly appreciated by everyone.

Please take care and thank you once again for sharing your experience.

Best Wishes

Jackie

Hi Grewm96,

I am so sorry to hear about your mother and would like to pass on our deepest condolences to you and your family. It must still be a very difficult time for you all and I hope you are doing as best as you can.

It was really nice of you to take the time out to pass on such positive feedback at such a difficult time. It is heartening to hear that there was such care, compassion, dignity and respect shown by all of the NHS staff who cared for your late mother and that the quality of care will help the family in moving forward at this sad time.

Please take care of yourself and thanks again for sharing your experience, it is much appreciated.

All the very best,
Mark
