"Poor standards"

About: University Hospital Monklands / Day Surgery

(as a relative),

Was visiting family member in monklands day surgery unit, while visiting a student nurse came to do a set of obs (unobserved), including a blood sugar. While conducting the blood sugar, did not carry out any hand hygiene, did not wear any gloves, did not clean the site to get blood from. Very disappointed at the standards.

Dear andromedaqy63,

Thank you for sharing your experience of University Hospital Monklands, Day Surgery.

I am sorry to hear about the lack of hand hygiene practices when doing blood sugar checks by the student nurse. We have provided this feedback to them and have asked they reflect on this so we can improve moving forward.

We have also introduced personal hand gel which can be carried on staff's person, an increase in hand hygiene posters within wards as a reminder as well as having this as a focus within the ward for all staff.

I hope you are recovering well.

Kind Regards,

Jenni
