"My son's birth"

About: Maternity care / Labour Suite Ninewells Hospital / Maternity care

(as the patient),

I recently gave birth to my second child in Ninewells labour ward.  From the moment I arrived, all staff were extremely friendly and professional and put me at ease.  My first child had been born there 3 years before, and her birth had several serious complications, although thankfully she is fine now.

The midwife, Erin, and all doctors who dealt with me said separately they'd read my notes and saw what happened last time, and they will try their best not to let that happen again. This made a massive difference to how I felt in that I felt seen for lack of a better word, and that they understood me.

Erin was joined by a student midwife called Elena and both were fantastic with me throughout the labour and birth.   They really kept me calm and relaxed and I would like to say a massive thank you to both of them.

All doctors who dealt with me were also fantastic- extremely professional but very human too.  I'm afraid I don't remember the doctors names but want to say a huge thank you to them.

Thank you all for making my son's birth such an amazing, calm experience.  It sounds a bit naff to say, but it was actually very therapeutic to have a reasonably straightforward birth after last time, and I'm very grateful for this.   Thank you all so much X

Dear Caringd44

My name is Lee-Anne Abel, and I am a Senior Midwife within the maternity department at Ninewells.

Firstly, congratulations on the birth of your baby boy. I am delighted to hear you had such a positive experience and would like to thank you for taking time to share this with us.

Sharing your story is a really positive way for us to measure how care feels for women accessing our services and I am reading very clearly that for you this was high quality and person centered. I am delighted to hear that your previous experience was acknowledged and the team caring for you reassured you and made you feel safe in their care during your labour and birth.

It is in no way "naff" to acknowledge the healing that happens with a positive birth experience and I will be delighted to share your feedback with our teams so they can see read the real difference they have made for you. It is heartwarming for me to read this and understand from your perspective how important this was for you.

I feel very privileged that you have felt able to share you story with me via care opinion and will take great pride in sharing this with our teams and in particular with Erin and Elena.

I hope you are all settling well into this new family life and enjoy making many more wonderful memories together as a new family.

Warm Regards,

Lee-Anne Abel, Senior Midwife
