I had the most incredible birth experience, all thanks to the glorious midwife (and other midwives) at the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital. My midwife was Hattie.
Throughout my pregnancy I had hyperemesis and was in and out of hospital the entire time. All the midwives I had at the hospital were absolutely incredible. They all believed me, supported me, cared for me and empathized with me. I couldn’t fault it at all even when they were busy and things took longer they were all still fabulous.
I went in with my contractions and straightaway I was told that I was 6cm dilated by a lovely midwife (who I can’t remember her name). Immediately I was taken into a beautiful calm and peaceful birthing room with a birthing pool where Hattie was.
Here I was allowed to be completely myself, and she listened to me the entire time. She was calm, professional, friendly, and most of all she believed in me. Due to her I was able to have the birth of my dreams and due to her I was able to catch my baby myself which was the best day of my life. She coached me through pushing and due to her I had no tears. I was able to birth my placenta as she believed in me and taught me how.
After the birth she took care of me, allowed me to shower and dressed me. When I was at my most vulnerable she was there for me, and took care of me completely, guiding me through this scary process and making it all ok. Hattie supported my husband as well throughout the process careful and calmly explaining what was happening and allowing him to feel a part of it all.
If I was able to have her for all my births I would love it. She doesn’t realise what an incredible impact she has had on my life, and I will forever remember her. I think that Hattie deserves a lot of praise and will go far in her career as a midwife.
