"My lack of treatment"

About: Caithness General Hospital / Trauma & orthopaedics Lawson Memorial Hospital / Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy Services Raigmore Hospital / Trauma & orthopaedics

(as the patient),

In Dec 2022 I turned over in bed and heard a bone snap and felt the pain twice. I was x-rayed at Caithness General, told It could be broken spurs. I was taken to Caithness General 3 times with pain and unable to walk during the first months of 2023.

I saw a consultant in August and had x-rays, they asked if I wanted a new knee. I said no it's not arthritic pain. I insisted and got an MRI in Oct 2023. Telephone appointment in Dec 23 for the results. I have Osteochondral lesionsin patella-femoral joint, evidence of Hoffa pad infringement and bursitis. I was advised to have a steroid injection at my GP`s surgery and my consultant said they would arrange a face to face appointment in 6mths for x-rays of pelvis and both knees.

I had to chase up the request for the injection myself with my consultant's secretary as it was not sent to my GP. I finally got the injection in Feb 2024 and it was a very bad experience. Massive pain the day after and for 2 weeks, unable to walk even with the crutches I had been using for 15 mths, along with paracetamol, diclofenic, lidocaine patches and a tens machine.

I contacted my consultant's secretary at the end of Feb to ask for earlier appointment as I was now suffering with pain in the hip as well, both in the right leg. I got to see my consultant in May 24. I had no x-rays, no examination, they were looking at x-rays from 2022 of my hips and said I have three options - keep taking the painkillers, Steroid injection even though he knew I had a bad reaction or a hip replacement.

I finally got to see a physiotherapist at the Lawson in Feb 24,  who gave me excercises for my knee, helped enormously, I could walk after 2 weeks, more different excercises badly affected the hip and back to the crutches. The physio said I do not need a new knee, which is what I said in the first appointment, now apparently I need a new hip, with no interactive examination. How can this be true.
